Declaration of generative AI use
Geosfera Indonesia recognizes that generative AI and related tools can support researchers by helping summarize literature, identify research gaps, generate ideas, and improve organization and readability. However, these tools may only assist the writing process and must not replace human expertise, judgment, or interpretation.
Authors remain fully responsible for their work. This includes:
Reviewing and verifying all AI-generated content for accuracy, completeness, and neutrality, including checking any references.
Editing and adapting the text so the manuscript reflects the authors’ own analysis, originality, and intellectual contribution.
Being transparent about any tools used and including a disclosure statement if AI Tools contributed to the writing process.
Ensuring the use of AI complies with data privacy, intellectual property, and relevant terms of service.
AI Tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as authorship requires responsibilities that only humans can fulfill.
A statement declaring the use of AI Tools must be included at the end of the manuscript, in a section placed before the reference list.
The use of AI Tools in the manuscript preparation process must be declared by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript when the paper is first submitted. The statement will appear in the published paper.
An example:
Title of new section: Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation process.
Statement: During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.
The declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools, such as tools used to check grammar, spelling and references. If you have nothing to disclose, you do not need to add a statement.
